Holmberg Wins on Candlewood

Rick Holmberg of Bayport, New York won the Ram AFT event for Connecticut D6 held on April 22nd at Candlewood Lake.

Dupuis Wins Two Day and AOY

Tom Dupuis of Terryville, Connecticut won the AFT Connecticut D6 Two Day event held on August 6th and 7th on Lake Lillinonah. Running out of the State Ramp Landing, Tom caught a total of eight bass weighing 17.77 pounds. Fishing up river in very shallow weedy cover, Tom caught all his fish in less than 2 feet of water. To fish those areas he used only two baits, a topwater in the early morning and a chatterbait the rest of the day. The chatterbait caught most of his fish to include a 5.32 pound largemouth on Day One and it turned out to be the tournaments biggest bass. For the win Tom collected $726.

Prato Wins on Highland Lake

Nunzio Prato from Shirley, New York won the Ram American Fishing Tour presented by American Bass Anglers, Connecticut Division 6 tournament held May 21st on Highland Lake.  Running out of the State ramp landing near the town of Winsted CT, the New York angler caught his five fish mixed bag of smallmouth and largemouth bass weighing 11.81 pounds.  Nunzio did not catch a keeper fish at his first tournament with Division 6 last month, but made up for it by winning his second one. Nunzio said he caught most of his fish on a jig targeting shallow water pre-spawn and spawning fish. For the victory, he took home $376 in cash.

Tom Sweeney Wins on Lake Zoar

Tom Sweeney won the Ram American Fishing Tour presented by American Bass Anglers, Connecticut Division 6 tournament, held May 14th on Lake Zoar. Running out of the State ramp landing near the town of Southbury CT, the Glastonbury angler caught his limit of five bass weighing 9.24 pounds. The day proved to be a challenge with dense fog the first couple of hours in the morning followed by high bright blue skies for the rest of the day. Lake Zoar upheld its reputation as a small bass fishery as the weights were low, but everyone except two anglers caught fish. Tom caught most of his fish on crankbaits and paying close attention to small details. For the victory he took home a check for $425.

Mike Rinaldi wins on Candlewood Lake


 

Mike Rinaldi won the RAM American Fishing Tour presented by American Bass Anglers, Connecticut Division 6 tournament, held on Candlewood Lake April 23rd. The North Haledon, New Jersey angler caught five bass weighing 15.95 pounds. Mike really earned the win as the day proved to be a challenge with rain in the morning followed by white capped windy lake conditions in the afternoon. Mike said he caught his fish with three different lures and presentations. Two keepers came on a jerkbait, one on a crankbait and the other two on a jig. For the victory Mike took home a check for $543.

John Ogolik Wins Division 6 Two-Day and AOY

John Ogolik won the RAM American Fishing Tour Division 6 final two-day tournament presented by American Bass Anglers, held on Candlewood and Lillinonah Lakes.  John also won the AOY award. The Terryville, Connecticut angler caught a two-day total of 10 bass weighing 25.47 pounds.  In addition, he won the Big Bass of the event with a 4.27 largemouth caught at Candlewood Lake on the first day. He said he caught the majority of his fish on jigs and at times with a Super Fluke. For the victory, John took home a check for $568.00.

In second among the competitors, Gary McClarran from Stafford Springs Connecticut finished off the event with a two-day bass catch weighing in at 19.39 pounds. Gary said he caught the majority of his fish on plastics and fishing very slow.  He pocketed a check for $188.00.

Taking third place, Jason Matinelli of Roxbury, Connecticut caught his two-day limit of bass weighing 19.33 pounds catching most of his fish flipping beaver plastic baits.

In fourth place, Tom Dupuis also from Terryville Connecticut, caught 14.78 pounds of bass which included a 4.26 pound smallmouth for the big fish on Day Two. Don Philpot rounded out the top five competitors with 12.05 pounds of bass.

Tom Dupuis Wins on Lake Lillinonah

Tom Dupuis won the RAM American Fishing Tour Connecticut Division 6 tournament, held on July 11th, 2015 at Lake Lillinonah. 

Running out of the Steel Bridge ramp landing near the town of Brookfield, CT, the Terryville Connecticut angler caught a limit of five bass with an adjusted final weight of 10.03 pounds.  The tournament proved to be a challenge as it was a hot and sunny summer day bringing out numerous pleasure boaters and water skiers. In addition, there were three other tournaments going on at the same time and fishing the areas you wanted proved to be difficult at times. Tom said he caught the majority of his fish on a spinnerbait early in the day before the majority of the crowds and activity affected him. For the victory Tom took home a check for $294.00.

In second among the competitors, was John Ogolik, also from Terryville, CT. John caught his limit of five bass weighing 9.38 pounds by mainly flipping plastics to any available cover. John collected $94.00 for his efforts.

Taking third place, T.J. DeFelice from Trumbull, CT caught five bass weighing 8.91 pounds and it included the Big Fish of the day, a 3.22 pound largemouth.

Rounding out the top five were Jason Martinelli from nearby Roxbury, CT with 8.36 pounds for fourth place and Leon Dykas from Torrington, CT with a final weight of 5.72lbs.

 Jason Martinelli Wins on Candlewood

Jason Martinell from Roxbury Connecticut won the RAM American Fishing Tour presented by American Bass Anglers, Connecticut Division 6 tournament, held on Candlewood Lake. 

Running out of the Lattins Cove landing near the town of Danbury, Jason caught his limit of five bass weighing 12.11 pounds.   Jason said he caught a couple of his keepers on topwater with the remaining fish being taken on plastics with a light weight in deeper water weed line edges. For the victory, Jason took home a check for $249.00.

In second among the competitors, Pete Byrnes from Long Island, NY caught a five bass weighing 10.97 pounds.  Pete didn't indicate what he caught his fish on and this is the second tournament he has finished in the money.  He pocketed a check for $94.00.

Taking third place, Tom Sweeney of Glastonbury, CT also caught five bass weighing 10.98 pounds, but unfortunately two of his fish perished and the one pound penalty cost him an overall second place finish.

In fourth place, Gary McClarran of Stafford Springs, CT caught three fish for 7.09 and one of those fish turned out to be a nice 3.87 smallmouth resulting in the big fish of tournament.

These anglers accrued valuable points toward the Divisional Angler of the Year title. The points champion from each division will compete in the annual American Bass Anglers AFT Angler of The Year Final Round at the RAM AFT Championship.  In addition, the top 500 anglers from the various divisions will earn the right to compete in the three-day ABA, RAM AFT National Championship tournament. The RAM American Fishing Tour offers low cost, close to home bass tournaments that are designed for the weekend angler. All ABA anglers fish for money and points.

Anthony DeFelice wins on Candlewood Lake
 
ATHENS, Ala. -  Anthony (T.J.) DeFelice won the American Fishing Tour presented by American Bass Anglers, Connecticut Division 6 tournament, held on Candlewood Lake .  
 
Running out of the Squantz Cove ramp near the town of New Fairfield Connecticut, the recently released Marine soldier returned home from North Carolina and now residing in Trumbull Connecticut, caught 5 bass weighing 11.86 pounds.   The fish were in the later stages of the spawn and T.J. targeted mainly smallmouth just outside their spawning coves and in shallow water.  He caught the majority of his fish with soft plastics and chatterbaits.

Todd Rose wins on Lillinonah

Athens, Al - Todd Rose won the American Fishing Tour Connecticut division 6 tournament with 5 bass weighing 15.75 held on Lake Lillinonah on 05/09/2015.

Running out of the State ramp landing near the town of Brookfield Ct, the Stafford Springs Connecticut angler caught 5 bass weighing 15.75 pounds.  Most of the day was overcast and breezy, but it still didn't matter to Todd as he was able to catch all of his fish by sight fishing including the big fish of the day, a beautiful 4.63 smallmouth.
