What Craig does for a living:
I'm a aircraft mechanic for Lockheed Martin and I previously helped build the F-22 Raptor ( the best stealth fighter in the world).. I enjoy my job because I know who im working for and why. Freedom isnt free.
What you should know about Craig:
I like restoring boats with my friends and seeing something old become new again.
How Craig started fishing
I started fishing old cow ponds and creeks when i was a young boy with my brothers. I fell in love with fishing and have a huge passion for it. I started fishing local tournaments in NC with my best friend and enjoyed meeting guys that enjoyed fishing and the challenge as much as I did. I believe my last tournament i fish will be when im too old to cast, until then, i have ALOT of fun fishing to do.
Aspirations or goals with fishing
I would like to just enjoy fishing with good people that share a desire to compete as much as myself. I would like to fish full time one day but i have ALOT to learn still to ever get to that point.
Favorite way to fish
My favorite style of fishing is jig fishing. To me, its the most versitile bait a fisherman can throw to catch fish all year long. When i have a jig rod in my hand, im one happy camper.
Most exciting fishing experience
My best day of fishing ever was the day i fell inlove with my wife. Our first date was a picnic at the lake and to fish a little. The moment i saw her dig deep into a nightcrawler tub and bait her own hook, i knew right then that i had found the one God wanted me with.. Thank you Lord!!! :-)
How Craig preps for a tournament
I usually prep before a tourney by just making sure ive got fresh line on, sharp hooks and fully charged boat batteries. Other than that, i try to get a feel of how the fish want to bite and where they are and then try to dial them in. Biggest thing i do is HAVE ALOT OF FUN...
Three favorite search baits
Crankbait, spinnerbait, and swimming jig... if i cant bit on one of those 3, then its gonna be a very long day.. lol
Best tournament finish and what you did that day when you were fishing.
My best win came on lake Hickory in NC and my best 5 weighed 22.6lbs.... The one thing i believe helped me the most that day was finding the right bait, size and color the big fish wanted to bite early in the day and then figuring out the pattern they were holding in. Was truly my best day fishing to date.
Most challenging part of tournament fishing
The most challenging part of tournament fishing for me is staying mentally confident on the way im fishing. Its disheartening to know how your fishing will catch them and then it doesnt for long periods of time. Usually my mind will try to go heywire and i will want to change up a zillion times (panic), but ive learned that usually the fish havent changed their order, its usually how im serving the order that keeps them from biting.. Stop, breathe, slow down, and then re group usually helps a ton.
When tournaments don't go my way
Learn something from the day of being humbled, listen to what those who did well were doing, and then chaulk it up to a training day. Im convienced that i will have those days as long as i fish, just shake it off and press on.
Advice to give to an aspiring tournament angler:
Listen, learn, practice and stay humble. My opinion is the day a person stops doing one of those 4 things is the day they start on the road to failure.
