Welcome to the American Fishing Tour

Maze Takes the Win and Big Bass Honors

Byran Maze of Lamar, MO, is one step closer to the ABA National Championship with his 1st place win and earnings totaling $712 in the American Fishing Tournament held on the Stockton Lake May 30, 2015. Maze brought in a five-bass limit that weighed 15.23 lbs and was anchored by Big Bass of the tournament, a hawg, that went 7.03 lbs.  Second place went to another Lamar angler, Jim Banks, who also had a five-bass limit, his weighing 11.36 lbs. Mike Carter of Raytown, MO took 3rd place with 10.31 lbs; 4th place was Tony French of Ft. Scott, KS with a five-bass limit weighing 10.25 lbs.

Also attending this tournament were eight active duty soldiers based at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. The soldiers were presented a rod/reel combo donated by Lews and paired with an ABA angler just before launch. They competed among themselves for the heaviest weight. Devin Mervine (partner of Eric Craft) took 1st place; 2nd place was Steven Hooper and 3rd place went to James Cowherd. Hooper fished with Jim Banks and Cowherd partnered with Joey Wyatt.

Launch time saw low 60’s air temperature and about 70⁰ water temperature. Skies were overcast most of the day with a couple of very light showers. The wind changed from south to northwest and came in 10-15 minutes spurts. Fish were reported caught on top-water, crank baits, and soft plastic; the 7 lber was caught on “isolated rock using a beaver bait.”

The next D126 tournament is scheduled for June 13, 2015 on Stockton Lake launching out of Hartley Ramp. This will be the final 1-day tournament of the 2015 season. The 2-Day Championship will be held August 1-2, 2015.
